... Interesting, Wyatt Earp was only in Dodge a couple of years and was ever only assistant Marshall. Bat Masterson was a Canadian - his family originally came from Henryville in the Eastern Townships of Quebec! The cattle drives ended in 1886 as the farmers took over. Since then, Dodge is a hub for grain and cattle shipments. As we left Dodge west along the Santa Fe Trail, we passed huge feedlots of cattle.

We had exhausted just about everything in the city so we headed back to the hotel to do washing after managing to put it off for two weeks.

We also were very productive in booking all accommodation for the next 3 weeks, and car hires. An early night had us up and ready at 4am to walk to the station for our 5.30 train to Raton.

We started Thursday with another early walk. If you're out by 7:30 am, you don't get too sweaty or sunburned. By 9:00 , its edging 90 degrees, and afternoon temperatures were forecast to be 107. We were looking forward to a repeat in the pool but a strong line of thunderstorms arrived about 4:30 pm, just about the time the pool would normally become ...

... into the first motel we saw (as we both needed a wee), aptly named Wyatt Earp Inn. We're ready for some wild west adventures tomorrow. Or tonight if the amount of pickup trucks in the carpark is anything to go by. There is a bar and eatery right next door, but I'm not sure if I'm brave enough to try it. If you don't hear from us tomorrow, you will know we tried and failed!
