We spent about 4 hours walking around the historic district of Charleston. Beautiful old homes dating back to the 1690's. One of the larger homes near the water had recently sold for 28 million. We were able to tour one of these homes but interior pictures were not permitted. The downtown area seems to be primarily residential - no office towers. …
No pictures today. We spent the day in transit. Ran into major roadwork near Savannah and took a detour on smaller roads. Most of the land mass in this area is low lying swamp. Very flat and meandering rivers everywhere. Lots of swampland for sale - cheap. 5 acres for about $25,000 - $50,000. The weather tonight is quite cloudy with possible rain …
Headed for southern Italy. Starting in Rome and ending in Naples with the Adriatic and the Mediterranean coasts and a few towns in between including Pompeii. Leaving two days early before we start our Rick Steves tour which we will spend in Rome. Hope there's something to do there. ... but I didn't really get a lot out of it. I really wanted more history around the Civil War and lifestyles from that period.
