Excellent rates at $81 for the 3 of us in 2 lovely large queen beds with very comfortable mattresses, a huge room and great amenities. The Roadkill Cafe is adjacent with a vast range of breakfast and a discount for peeps who stayed in the Motel.

After settling in last night we had set our alarms for 5 am, to ensure we were up and out in time to choose a spot for the sunrise. Given the late arrival last night we really had to drag ourselves into the cold but we also had a sense of impending excitement that we were actually going to see one of the natural wonders of the world. It would have …

Leaving Grand Canyon 9.00hrs to return back to our dear old friend Route 66. Bliss Arrived on Peach Springs 17.35. Great journey and over 260 miles all the way. Getting our kicks. We did a detour to see Oak Creek. The roads from Grand Canyon are really good and plenty to see on our travels. As we neared the creek the scenery changed back to pine …

Having had an amazing 5 months in Europe it was time for a new continent and the next stage of our journey. We left our weeks of road tripping in a group of 8-13 in Spain to be just the 2 of us again and our new car Roxy.

A loop/triangle was mapped out for 2 weeks travelling 2321 miles on the wrong side of the road through California, …

... was no way I could take the trail down to the river as that is over 8 miles long! I retraced my steps and took a trail east towards the Yavapai Lodge watch which follows a journey through geologic time. At various intervals along the trail that are examples of the rock found at each level of the canyon representing a history up to 2 billion years ago. Once at Yavapai Lodge it was possible to see the Colorado river itself at the bottom of the canyon, and ...

... stop was a visit to the Hoover Dam. This is a terrific feat of engineering but more interesting to most was that it had featured in the first Superman film and a James Bond film (Golden Eye?). It was released ridiculously hot at the dam as we were back in desert lands again. I think it was 44 degrees (Celsius). The dam can hold 2 years worth of water supply and is still the Colorado River that we saw at Lake Havasu and at ...
