We had no plans for the day. So even though we got jolted out of bed, we lazed around with our puzzles and email before frying up a little breakfast. Good ole Southern style: Sausage, biscuits and gravy. I don’t care if we are in South Carolina….no grits, Janice! They served some with my fish the other night at Nick’s Boathouse and I STILL don’t like 'em.

Westminster Area Waterfalls

... Across the creek, some whitewater rafters had stopped for a break at this waterfall. We ate lunch here and then I took off my boots and waded across the creek and headed up to the base of the waterfall. It was hot enough that the cold water felt very good. We Made it to Lake Keowee

... to an annual street car show in Forest City NC, a couple of hours from Seneca. There was a wonderful selection of cars that rivaled any show we attended in the Bay Area. One other notable event was Jazz on the Alley which is free and held every Thursday during the summer, in downtown Seneca. There is quite a diversity of people who attend, the music was excellent, and we had the best wings ever.

... and Bryce Canyon National Parks. Arches is also in southern Utah but, while beautiful and unique, was really too touristy and crowded to be counted as one of our favorites.

  • The most exotic park was probably the one in American Samoa. Certainly, it was the one farthest from home and one of the ones with a very unique culture.

  • The parks with the best single hikes, at least in my opinion, were Lake Clark in Alaska and Yosemite ...
