    ... hour round trip ended up
    taking 4 hours. Poor Ben, he's being a trooper with some of the
    longer driving days but it does hurt him to sit for that long. We've
    read that we shouldn't drive for more than 5 hours and certainly not
    everyday. I can see why, you'd spend the whole time looking at the
    scenery go by. We're aiming for 1-2 hours daily average.

    ... to the hotel John managed to buy a bottle of wine at a rest stop location. Yay!

    Dinner at the hotel was much improved over the night before. At least the hot food was hot. We had salad, chicken, potatoes and green beans and cheesecake for dessert.

    We viewed a DVD about Sequoia/Kings Canyon National Parks and then it was time to turn in. The next day we would head to Yosemite, our major goal for this trip!

    ... fail occasionally. We did a drive by the next morning and it does look awesome so worth a visit on the weekend (next time).
    Our next plan was to drive 4 hours north to a Giant redwood forest north of San Francisco but thanks to Google, we found out about Big Basin Redwoods State Park only 50min drive away from Santa Cruz!!
    Spectacular and we saw the tallest trees in the world - the giant, towering REDWOODS! Big Basin is California's ...

    ... I thought NYC.) At the time there was a LONG line of precipitation going from the northern most part of the country to the southern most part of the country. This precipitation did not contain thunderstorms but did contain icing conditions. My hope was that the weather would pass in time for me to be able to go all the way to NYC.
