Things are finally falling into place and the countdown continues at 3 weeks to go!
I'm so excited to arrive in Paris and see my cousin and meet his daughter, the newest addition to the Phené family!
Then I'll be off to Salzburg to soak in the music festival for 4 days! Looking forward to touring the Eagle's Nest, the Sound ...
We enjoyed a box lunch picnic in the park. They were packed by the hotel and were better than expected (after last night's poor meal)---sandwich, chips and cookie. We ate with Eric and Sue from Illinois, very nice folks.
After lunch and a short drive we took in an amazing view of Kings Canyon ...
... both facilities at the same time. This 2nd USP is not mentioned on posters.
One high point earlier was discovering the wonderful "Sweet Tomato" (Te'mate-o) chain of restaurants with a line of 30ish help yourself salad ingredients, soup, bread, deserts etc all for less than 25 dollars for 2. Still no booze but was a Vegan's dream.
Now off to bed looking forward to the next 3 days.
Today was a journey through time as Oliver and I went "below the rim" of the Grand Canyon. A 4 hour, 9 mile trip through the Permian - from idilic coral beaches to wind swept desert dunes. A geologists perfect day, so time to carry on the Idiot's Adventure. It's been a few days since my last Pale Ale (wining and dining in Las Vegas), so I have a few Californians left to sample, though we are in Arizona ...
... Leaving the mountains and entering the valley, we saw farms of grapes, oranges, lemons, walnuts and trees of undetermined kind. This was definitely the agricultural area of California. At many of the farms workers were busy harvesting the crop.
As we entered the park we noticed so unusual looking birds flying from tree to tree. Grabbing our cameras we attempted to get their pictures ...
