... about 20 other people were camped out as well, which you could reach by stepping across about 15 feet of rocks in the stream. That night, though, it started raining and, worried about being stuck on the island the next day, Jersey Girl and I shifted into the main camp and cowboy camped (i.e. - just slept on the ground with our pads instead of in our tents or hammocks) under this massive tarp some guy had set up. It was much louder and, even though I went to bed ...

But I normally wake up at least a few times a night with sore or stiff legs, and I wanted plenty of sleep since I was going to do big miles that day as well. Rain again but we managed not to get wet with 2 hail storms! In between, Dev took us to the Blue Ridge Parkway and across the Linn Cove Viaduct, then up Grandfather Mountain. Rises to 5946 feet. At the top is the Mile High Swing Bridge, at 5280 ...

    Family gathering.

A travel blog entry by boomermaxwell on Apr 19, 2015

Woke to rain and mist, but hoped it would improve. Unfortunately it did not, poured all day. Great family gathering for lunch of all Sara's family. Her Dad, Bill; brother Adam, wife Emily and children Rayley, Carson, Lucy and Rory; sister Maggie, children Caelin and Joni, and her mother-in-law Gail. Lovely to see them all again as we had not seen them since Andrew and Sara's ...
