... out of the valley. The rest of the day was fairly typical of Pennsylvania so far: no huge elevation changes and some rocks but not the real bad stuff yet. I was going to do a little bit longer day since I had neroed into Boiling Springs the day before, so I pushed on to Duncannon, PA, a trail town 26 miles from Boiling Springs.

... I had finally made it to the unofficial halfway point. I treated myself to a night in a hostel and some pizza. On the AT the trail only goes through about 5 miles of West Virginia, so I made it into Maryland in no time. To everyone's relief the trail in Maryland flattened out quite a bit so I was able to push a lot of miles. Next thing I know I am crossing the Mason Dixon line into Pennsylvania. Arrived at Casa Calma Hotel at 6am. Avery small boutique hotel that is enviromentaly friendly. Easy to spot in the street as the whole hotel is covered with a hanging garden!
