      ... road of this portion of MDI and explore. Bass Harbor is a lovely detour and an idyllic spot which hosts a working fishing village. Casey spots a memorial to the spirit of these fishermen.

      We then encircle Long Pond watching and giggling at amateur boaters launching their canoes while muttering in foreign tongues while they glance around to see if they can watch someone else doing it “right”. Not a chance. Off they go!

      ... just a bit of what I am sure is an area that is well worth spending more time in…another time. I was generously hosted by new friends, the Hon. Jim Bulger and his wife Janet at their lovely home in Waikanae. They have re-located there from a family farm closer to Auckland and seem to be enjoying the easy proximity to Wellington.       ... mini diving buddies all having met sticky ends at the hands / claws / teeth of various marine animals. Its a tough job being Diver Ed's diving buddy. There is method in the madness since mini Ed not only provides a bit of humour, but it gives size perspective on things down there.       ... we identified various short cuts and off we went. The carriage roads are crushed granite and there are some gradual climbs and lovely gradual downhills too.  Before long, after a few map consultations, we were at the bottom of the 'loop' and at the Jordan Pond centre.  We walked the bikes up and found 4 chairs just outside the busy restaurant area for our picnic.  As with many US parks, it is very busy ...

      ... good eating. I later figured out they were cod and also figured out the regs state 19" and special permitting. These were 4&6" never fails. Oh and the sea gulls here would happily carry Cheyenne off as they are almost the size of swans... Hustling back up the street cause in Bar Harbor you are allotted 2 hours for exploring as per the parking enforcement. The skies opened up again just as we were closing the doors.
