        To Maggie and Brian's cottage.

Drove straight up to Maggie and Brian's cottage in northern Vermont. Sun shining brightly but deceptively - it was 4deg. The cottage is right on the shore of Echo Lake ( not the same one we saw yesterday - that was south). M & B come here from Montreal, takes about 2 & half hours. The cottage is really rustic, uneven flours, archaic plumbing etc, but so charming. There is a bucket in the middle of ...

As our hotel was in the city, we walked around the corner to buy fresh muffins and Graeme bought a decent coffee. Called Italian coffee here - but called American coffee in Italy (we were in Italy 5 years ago). What happened to Melbourne coffee? Drove a beautiful route north from Springfield through Hadley, Sunderland and Millers Falls. Farmland with New England timber houses either side ...

Lake Champlain got more narrow as the day progressed. The scenery was beautiful, but it's such a shame the last few days have been smoggy. Apparently this is not normal even for hot humid days- the fogginess is being blamed on the smoke in the air from the fires in Washington. Not long into our journey we passed the deepest part of the lake- we saw over 400 feet. A big difference from Mako's usual sailing area!! We wound down past the ...

... a meditation bench from my Dad's house that we'd been carrying with us and needed to deliver to my brother's house in Vermont.  These were all safely hidden under a large blanket in the back, with two bottles of Roxyann wine (I almost forgot!!) from Oregon. Our route today was simply taking I-787 to Route 7 to Bennington, VT!  We actually could have driven home without the Garmin, but "Alice" had been keeping us on track ...

... not merit a photograph. The restaurant is known for their guacamole made table side with fresh ingredients. The sangria was sweet, but a nice end to a hot day!

But as good as it was, it did not compare to the tasty dinner Nancie Severs prepared, a very savory blackened mahi mahi, accompanied by a wonderful salad of mixed field greens, orange ...
