    ... too. You don't see as many brilliant oranges and reds as in the eastern mountains but the deep yellows of the aspens spotting the mountainsides is good eye candy.     ... freezing sleet pelted us. The altitude at the top is 14,270 feet and is the crown of the highest paved road in the United States. On a clear day some say that you can see Kansas but on that day we had difficulty seeing the hood of the car. It was still worth the drive.
