      Just a side note about "dog people" and "dog culture"... We have owned 3 dogs over the past 30 years.       ... surrounded by the birds who stood about a meter away in a circle, checking us out and waiting for their moment to pounce. To make things worse, N kept discarding bits of his sandwich into the famously fine-grained "powdered sugar" sand. The birds made a few more passes at those bits but didn't attack our hands again.
