... but created a sort of curiosity about the story that made them part of the landscape.Silver Lake is a peaceful spot and the Forest Service maintains facilities and campsites at the end of a 1.6 mile hike up from the road. There was a way to drive in to the lake in its hotel days but alas the Forest Service closed that access-thank goodness, and saved the peaceful character of the area. Nothing like a road in to wreck an area.
