We all made it to the 2nd North Gate Tower, where we had to leave Brendan and proceeded up the steeper section to the 3rd Gate Tower. Once past the 3rd Tower, we looked up at what looked like 10 thousand stairs up to the 4th and final Tower and decided our Great Wall challenge was over, returning back to the bottom via the inside wall path.

After a brief look at some of the local wares, I went with a splinter group to the local university and a local watering hole/billiards, foosball and darts place. It was fun, the bar quirky, the competition close and the food mediocre. After enough time had passed an all of us had joined, we went back to the station an returned triumphant to Beijing.
... think I might appreciate it here more if I were hure DURING a school semester, rather than a vacation where I would have been able to appreciate my time off, but that's not at all to say that this has been a trip made in vein.
