... was by students who work here in the summer and they were terrific. At the end of the boat trip it was lunchtime and we were treated to a sit down lunch...military precision..wish I had taken a photo. The afternoon was a visit to an old gold mining area but we passed under the 800 mile long Alaskan Oil Line...Alaska is rich in oil etc so heard the history of that too. ... which is still damp but much more solid from overnight sun. On roads that we traveled two days ago at 30 MPH, we're now hitting speeds over 60. In pavement breaks where we used to slow, we speed across without hesitating. There's an eagerness to our pace, as we need to get to Fairbanks. We stop again at Yukon Camp for gas and food. ... On arrival into Fairbanks I retreated to McDonald's to grab a drink and to also use the free Internet. Whilst I was in McDonalds the wind storm hit in full force, followed by showers of rain. The idea of pitching a tent for the night quickly took a distant second place to grabbing a cabin. Tomorrow is washing clothes and having a look around Fairbanks. There is also a huge Barnes and Noble book shop that I would like to check ...

... on the front of cars? Because during the winter they need to be plugged into electricity to keep the motor warm. We were also surprised that very little rain falls here. Many people who live in outlying areas, drive around with large tanks on the tray of the pick-up truck, for their supply of water. Lunch was at a nearby Barbeque place.....nice but too much!
