<br ...
Ngapuna, Auckland, New Zealand bindannmalweg... riding, we came back to the hotel and walked over to the Polynesian spa to soak for a few hours.

We then had an excellent dinner at Lewishams in the main street dinning area. Quite a diverse menu at reasonable prices.

Unfortunately the hire car had a flat tyre this afternoon, so hopefully we can get it patched up before heading up to Auckland tomorrow morning.
Rotorua, North Island, New Zealand sk2885... environment until they are about 1kg in weight & are then released back into the wild.

We went on a guided tour of the centre & were able to see three kiwi birds at the end of the tour. It was really interesting to learn about these unique birds that have more similarities to mammals than actual birds.

After that, we visited "Te Puia" where we learned about Maori heritage & culture. We went to a cultural performance where we experienced a traditional Moari ...
Rotorua, North Island, New Zealand dixie87... was close to three hours long and we were numb by the end of the ride because it was so windy and cold! After the boat trip, we drove another 15 minutes or so to Hot Water Beach. When the tide is low there is a stretch of sand where you can rent a shovel, dig a hole in the sand and find steaming hot water! So we rented a shovel and began feverishly digging... only to find very lukewarm water. There was probably fifty other bathers there just ...
Rotorua, North Island, New Zealand thatgirlkate... self-taught paleontologist and set up shop in her garage. After we left the aquarium we went to Marineland which is a park that now rescues injured marine life like penguins, sea lions, and sea birds. They had a couple of blind sea lions. One of the sea lions that was born there was trained to do cute tricks like blow kisses, shake hands, do a hand stand, and give her trainer a kiss on the lips. They also ...
Rotorua, North Island, New Zealand jessnallie... none of us could hazard a guess when that was but we were expecting them to turn up dragging us out of our comfy hovels. No such satisfaction. By the time they arrived at 11:30 we had all been for a walk to the nearest and smelliest mud pool; had our breakfast; I had washed and dried my clothes and had dipped my phone in a cup of water that Isabel had placed in the arm of my chair while I wasn't looking. Quite a full morning wouldn't you say. Today Mum and Angie had planned to ...
Rotorua, North Island, New Zealand onemanonedrum... However, we did stop at a few nice places, like the Victoria square market (a nice souvenir market where we had a photo taken dressed in late 19-th century clothes and where G finally managed to get his All Blacks T-shirt at a decent price), the Harbor, a very beautiful rose garden and one of the local entertainment districts, Parnell. Happy that we've seen Auckland the Griswalds' way (check, check, check), the next day we picked up our van (it converts into ...
Rotorua, North Island, New Zealand gapostol... Make the hole a bit bigger than your basket size so you can tuck the sacks and mutton cloth down the side. The hole doesn't have to be very deep, probably just enough for the rocks and about a third the depth of you crate. Some people differ in this next part as to preference but most Maori build the fire over the hole and others build the fire on the side of the hole. We will explain the fire over the hole technique in this site. Now that you have dug your hole, you need to ...
Rotorua, North Island, New Zealand happysheep... all numbered on them, so it is easy to ensure you don't miss anything. After we had finished at Wai O Tapu, we headed to the edge of Taupo to have a ride on the Huka Falls Jet. We didn't tell Donna & Joan where we were going as we thought they might wimp out, but they seemed to enjoy themselves. It's a very exhilarating ride, and luckily the rain stopped long enough so we didn't ...
