We left Flagstaff in enough time to ensure we could see two amazing sites, the Petrified Forest Trail and the Painted Desert. We managed to see a few attractions on the way such as Jack Rabbit (largest poster board on route 66!) and it didn't disappoint. We went into the shop and bought a t-shirt and Simon managed to grab a fridge magnet.
... students from Arizona State, managing to make us feel old?! Route 66 then took us alongside the I-40 through small towns like Peach Springs and Seligman and Kingman where we stopped for the night, close to the California border. We went slightly off the route the next day to go to see London Bridge in Lake Havasu City. Getting there involved another winding road going up and over the Black Mountains, with burros (donkeys) and bikers crossing our paths. ...
... lady said. I was instantly appalled. No explanation of why the law and I thought about the wonderful scenery around and just couldn't believe it. She did tell us the ovens were for baking bread. I was still discouraged by such a law and I believe it stated $10 and then there was another permit for more money which could only be video recording??? ... for the blue-ish tint in the desert dunes. Trail was a mile...with a steep climb back out..but not bad. Lots of petrified wood along the trail in this area.
Last stop was at the south end of the part and was a very short trail with lots of large petrified logs. These logs are amazing as they look like they would be just a normal wood log that has fallen...and in many cases...they look like they have been cut up into ...
