We left Flagstaff in enough time to ensure we could see two amazing sites, the Petrified Forest Trail and the Painted Desert. We managed to see a few attractions on the way such as Jack Rabbit (largest poster board on route 66!) and it didn't disappoint. We went into the shop and bought a t-shirt and Simon managed to grab a fridge magnet.
... was rudely awaken by the wigwam shaking and head loud bangs. No joke I swear the afghans where attacking!!! Looked outside and it was fireworks lol. As there is no big buildings are anything here they just sound like bombs. Went looking for where they came from and realised there was a county fair on. Woohoo! it was just like in the films lol it was funderland meets balmoral show. Was nice wee night and even got some cotton ...
... s when we headed towards home! Ohh noo! Our trip is almost over! But first we had to have Cracker Barrel, Mom's favorite road trip restaurant. As always, the food was delicious. Too bad they don't have a Cracker Barrel in California. After dinner we actually started going home. After an eight hour drive we finally made it home! Good Night.

... was nowhere else to goat. At another point we tried to get across to where we thought Route 66 was parallel to us, but we were in danger of getting stuck in the deep dry sand of a wash or the loose dry sand of the mounds we were driving over. We even got to a point where our way was barred by a big cut of our own where a storm flood had cut through a ridge we were driving on. We had to give up and find our way back to the Interstate.

... fell and swollen streams washed them into adjacent floodplains. There a mix of silt, mud, and volcanic ash from distant volcanoes buried the logs. This cut off oxygen and slowed the logs’ decay. Then silica-laden groundwater seeped through the logs, replacing the original wood tissues with silica and petrifying the logs. The beautiful colors of the petrified wood come from the minerals in the silica saturated water.
