... while Mark navigated. It was raining, but traffic not as heavy as anticipated. Down interstate 287 then south on the NJ Garden Route, before turning east along the shore to Highlands and a bridge over to the Sandy Hook peninsula. Mark had a drive north along the sand spit, into a disused military town at Fort Hancock.

We drove down to Ocean Grove from Philly with one Allard and one little Evans in the morning. It was a steamy hot 90 degrees - a great day to get out of the city! After schlepping the kids with some difficulty from car to boardwalk, we realized that Ocean Grove beaches were closed until noon on Sundays because it's a place with Christian affiliations / heritage.
