What caught our attention of this motel was the majestic mountain goat hanging out on the front lawn... not a statue but a real one, grazing and minding its own business. This was a great place to rest after a long day of driving.

From Grande Cache, we were strategically just a few hours away from Jasper National Park. Another stunning day of driving as you can see from the Dashboard Report. Sunny, few clouds and surprise surprise, stunning natural views. We saw mountain goats being harassed by humans just a few km into the park - a father and son team tearing branches off …

... a great evening. We decided to all meet up the next day and hang out.

We ended up going into Banff for a bit then taking a little hike on the fenland loop trail. Only a short one which was just as well as it was really very cold. The low of the day was -30, the lowest temperature I have ever experienced. The walk was a lot of fun and it was nice to do it with other people. By the time we had looped round to the start of the trail we had pretty much ...

Our flight left late as it had to be de-iced - a smaller plane and a 50 min flight. Consequently we arrived late so missed the first departure time for the Banff transporter bus. We were still waiting at the carousel for our luggage about 20 mins later and then ...

... it is Lake Maligne surrounded by 3 glaciers and is a world famous photography centre By now we're into Alberta, another province of Canada with a different time zone. Most of our travels have been in British Columbia (BC) . So being in Alberta means we eat less salmon and swap it for beef! We had a great experience at Columbia Icefield by riding in an Ice Explorer, an all terrain bus that travels on ice measuring 300m thick. Beautiful snow-capped ...
