What caught our attention of this motel was the majestic mountain goat hanging out on the front lawn... not a statue but a real one, grazing and minding its own business. This was a great place to rest after a long day of driving.

From Grande Cache, we were strategically just a few hours away from Jasper National Park. Another stunning day of driving as you can see from the Dashboard Report. Sunny, few clouds and surprise surprise, stunning natural views. We saw mountain goats being harassed by humans just a few km into the park - a father and son team tearing branches off …

... at the resort but did suggest the local Esso station owner might know how to get the further 2 kms along the highway to Radium Hot Springs pool.
Jaquie the owner was there when we called in and informed us that the greyhound bus which departs once everyday scheduled a stop at the springs but went on to say that getting back might be a bit trickier. Some of ...

Spending another day in these beautiful Northern Rockies and drove to Lake Louise and Moraine Lake. Had lunch at the infamous Fairmont Hotel where it began to snow again...Summer flurries! Going to set up our little camper tomorrow with predictions of warmer weather. Meantime this evening enjoying downtown Banff and it's excellent restaurants. Oh, also saw a herd of elk on our return to this sweet touristy town. (Counted ...

... the Douglas Firs resort, Banff.

Another magical drive through the mountains bought us to the busy town of Banff. It must be an amazing ski resort as it is nestled among huge peaks and the town is packed full of cafés, bars and shops. A quick coffee break and we decided to visit the splendidly named Lake Minnewanka before we checked into the hotel.

Lake Minnewanka was an important place for the First ...

... shall see I guess. Our original intention had been to make it to Banff today but the long wait at the border changed our minds. As I said yesterday, IF we can get into the National Park tomorrow we very likely will not have wifi, so there may be a day or two break. I am giving you fair warning (unlike my dear friend Mary R. who dropped off the grid for several days and almost gave several of us heartburn worrying) so don't worry! We drove 221 miles ...
