A desperate gamble
... NEW 53-seat flights opened to Germany. The only problem was that Dover was a two-hour drive away from us and the flight to Dover would probably get there too late for the 53-firm flights. We had no car of our own, the rental car shops were closed, and we couldn't find anyone in the terminal with a car, going to Dover, that had room.

Fewer seats
... We have never tried to travel this early in the summer and now I know why. Unfortunately, the number of available seats never increased. I did get an interesting lesson in C-17 cargo and passenger manifesting. Apparently, there are regulations covering whether cargo is strapped-down or on a pallet and how close cargo can be to a passenger. Anyway, the short version ...
A day of rain
... got on the phone with FedEx and, after explaining the importance of this package to them, they said they would get a hold of the driver to attempt to redeliver.

From bad to worse
Once we got to McGuire, we went to check in at the passenger desk. Unfortunately, the 73-seat flight had been cancelled (****!) and only the 19-seat flight remained. Neither of these flights were listed on the web site so I was hoping that most people wouldn't know about them and we would be able to get on.
We started getting checked-in in order to be marked present when the counter agent started staring ...
