Awoke this morning at 8.15am after an amazing nights sleep and lots of animal noise outside in the night. There was evidently hippo, buffalo and elephant in our camp last night and i think everyone woke briefly at 6am following a very loud roar, it was funny to hear everyones zips go up and down on tents.
Breakfast and the morning were to be a leisurely affair followed by another few hours of sunbathing and lunch at noon before a 3 hour drive from Hippo Hill to Fort Portal.

Having walked all the way down the hill from the lodge, I decide to take a motorcycle taxi back up the hill, and enjoy the ride immensely. I'm in time to shower and pack and prepare for tomorrow’s departure before our evening entertainment. Our guides have arranged for some members of the Batoro (of the Toro Kingdom) to sing and dance for us on the lawn of the lodge. It is a delightful presentation, and ...
... is definitely involved, making our own paths as we follow our guides who are following the sounds of the troop which is moving through the forest. We are fortunate to not have to search for long, as they are quite near the ranger station. They are quite habituated to human presence, so they do not run as we walk nearby. We are broken into three smaller groups with three different guides so as not to get in each other’s way, and ...

Breakfast was at 7am today and we left the camp site at 8am. We headed straight for Shoprite so Vesh could do some shopping for the next few days and we stocked up on alcohol and snacks. Dan is a little hungover so it's quite amusing to hang out with him and take the ****! We then set off for Kibale. There are cows here with huge horns so we had several photo stops to take pictures of them. Uganda is very green and lush, even more so than Tanzania or Kenya.
... and I only came close to real fear once when, on trying to overtake a car on a downhill stretch, we came face to face with an oncoming vehicle and our sudden braking caused our own car to skid diagonally across the road. It was all rather worrying but I could understand his concern: driving around in Uganda after dark is not the best idea in the world and I'm sure he was racing against the sunset.
I was excited to notice that we were taking a route leading straight past the ...
... agency. We put our stuff and went to eat dinner in a restaurant, near the munici [al mosque, according to the recommendation of the Lonely Planet guide I carried with me. I like to try some new dishes when I travel in foreign countries, something I do not have available at home. This restaurant, which I forgot its name, was the first to offer specialties and traditional African dishes. I ordered goat stew, a type of meat I never ate before, and ...
Fort Portal, Uganda gsella... the swing of his pitching wedge-shaped blade. His small grandson hacks just as expertly at a piece of sugar cane to get to the juiciest, sweetest parts. These are just a few impressions of the past few days, during which we have been hanging out on the rim of Nkuruba Lake, one of 82 crater lakes in Western Uganda. The campsite where we are staying ...
Lake Nkuruba, Uganda jef_smi... streets instead. We decided to go for a 5 or 6 hour walk/hike around the area the next day to see 3 crater lakes, the local villages and a waterfall with a guide. It was a beautiful walk and fabulous/beautiful waterfall. i did not, however, enjoy the steep 55° climb down which only had loose mud on the path - I nearly decided to go down on my bum, which probably would have been the best idea! I did, however, enjoy the cold shower under the fall , once we had climbed over the ...
Fort portal, Uganda mandy_karl... chlled, read, sunbathed, watched otters, and met some interesting people. These people, some Americans, gave us a lift in their big 4x4 to our next destination, Kisoro. This wasd on a road that is renouned as the worst road in the whole of Uganda, and let me tell you, that is a prestigious title. It was, as expected, absolutely awful. I was not deserving of the title 'road' at all - more like a dried up, potholed river bed. It took us 3 hours to go no distance, and it we hadnt been in ...
Fort Portal, Uganda leila1She says: Alright.....so We caught a shared taxi yesterday to Lake Nkuruba (shared meaning NINE people in a Toyota Corolla).
