Great value for Lake Tahoe. Old school motel that has had some nice renovations. Large, clean room with kitchenette. We had room with balcony & lake view. Nice little pool. Decent complimentary breakfast.

58 degrees & sunny at 8 AM. Spent the morning driving down Route 1 along the California Coast. It's a hilly, curvy road with sweeping views of the Pacific, bluffs jutting out into the ocean, sea stacks and rocky areas, with open, flat field of cattle on the other side of the road and weathered barns.

... just a bit further up the road. Got to Rubicon Trail head parking lot at 9:15 am & got next-to-last parking space. I had read this was popular trail & to arrive early. The views from this trail were stunning - it runs along the lake shore but quite a ways above the lake. Water in Lake Tahoe can look that Caribbean turquoise &in other places, a brilliant cobalt blue.

... Bay respectively. Quite a view and quite a drive - not one that I'd fancy in winter with the snow beating down. We stopped off at Emerald Bay to get a different perspective from above. It's a really beautiful spot.

Back at the Pykett's we finally got into the hot tub on the top deck! With the sun setting and cold drinks at hand it was a fitting end to a really great day. We feasted on a farewell barbecue of ribs whilst, of course, aerating a few bottles of wine.

... still not much around. And we were in the area where all the Donner Party stuff went down. But fortunately we were able to get in and fuel up (after a couple of unsuccessful attempts - too small and not enough clearance to pull the camper in).

With that out of the way, we headed into Nevada. We saw a lot of smoke up ahead, and as we got closer to it there was a staging area for firefighters. Several ...
