Christchurch's "Annus Horribilis".
... it took the earthquake to bring down the city centre of Christchurch, 182 were killed and many injured seriously. Public figures, well known TV presenters, children and so many office workers and shoppers lost their lives.
The city centre, since February a no go zone, has just opened up with an interesting concept of a "container mall". Its correct name is Re-start Mall but we heard it referred to mostly as Container Mall. Two hours of free parking is available ...
Christchurch revisited
... lovely and very chatty, much nicer than the Wellington dancers (who I'm told, are still recovering after the fight and split of the tango scene there) My favourite dancer was Frank who is Dutch, but now lives in NZ. Happy sigh.. I found out right at the end that he's a teacher (when he invited me to join his class in Dunedin - wish I could) . Phil was also a really really good dancer - but I have to admit, that is the first, and I do hope last time, that a mans sweat ...
Back on the (not very busy) road
... now of the age for venturing down to the beach. It was magical. We stopped on the way back at a country pub set in elaborate gardens but with a soundtrack of awful Irish folk music blaring out which spoilt the whole pretending to be in a BBC period drama thing. That and the fact I foolishly hadn’t packed a ballgown in my rucksack for such a situation.

After a very enjoyable afternoon we leave them to their family duties and head around the corner to locate Andy's friends, Brad and Pariya, who are putting us up for the night. A quick wine with tem and then we are given a tour around town to see the devastation from the earthquakes.
