        ... to do a tour of the lake country. The landscape certainly makes this route a different drive than following Hwy 17 and the GPS didn't indicate much difference in time. I am SO glad to be off the Transcanada #1 - it is SO rough!

        ... back down thru the center of the state. The great scenery continued. My only negative would be that it was fairly flat so you had no great sweeping vistas. One final fun fact. Minnesota's highest point ( Eagle Mt. 2300 ft.) is only 13 miles from its lowest point ( Lake Superior 601 ft.). A great state, well worth the visit, but bring or acquire a boat for maximum enjoyment. Ever ...
