... the Prairie Creek Redwoods state park. First stop was at the Ah-Pah trail. It is a rehabilitated logging road through a small canyon. Amazing undergrowth, inspiring trees. It was the quintessential "walk in the park". We were the only ones there and it was our own little piece of paradise.

It seems the more south we head the crazier the California drivers get. I can say we are now starting to experience CRAZIER California drivers. ... I'm actually running out of words that mean awesome here aren't I? Ha.

Well, I thought the trees I had seen were big but some of these were just ridiculous. I mean, I can't even describe how massive they are, in height and circumference. I went on one of the hiking trails in the park which took me a couple of hours. ... afternoon. Cole’s bike continued to run flawlessly and with the burden of uncertainty lifted (at least temporarily) we thoroughly enjoyed the 3 plus hours of undulations and sweeping turns we encountered as we followed the contour of the landscape along the two rivers. The final third of the ride along the Trinity river was particularly enjoyable as the road tightens up and the scenery transitions from arid to forested.

... The dozen or so downtown blocks showcase the turn-of-the-centur architecture of a once well-to-do and vibrant urban core. Galleries, retaurants, artists' studios at ground level with apartments above, with the occasional pawn and thrift shop thrown in for good measure.
