... we made a hike to Bumpass Hell. This is a mud-pool plateau that can be found likewise (but much larger) in Yellowstone. Funny story how it got its name. The field was discovered by Mr Bumpass who claimed the land planning to exploit it and make it a tourist attraction. When he showed his claim to others he warned them to be careful where to step. On Thursday we left the beach and hit our 11th state on this journey (plus two provinces in Canada). We stopped off at McArthur-Burney Falls. This was a total surprise with an incredible series of waterfalls. We took the one mile hike around the falls and truly enjoyed this short stop. It reminded us of a very small Niagara Falls.
