    ... used to produce power for a long time. Consequently, mills were built here. I haven't read up on all the history of them, but have a few photos of the information. I also went into their visitor centre. They have gone to a lot of trouble to make the valley accessible with walking trails and bits fenced off for safety. I also noticed one part was a designated rock climbing area, with a request for 'no fouling'. I presume they mean dogs?

    ... up which had put the bridge out of operation for both cars and boats. Apparently there has been a more serious mishap at Stone (which is where we got our boat from last time). A paddle had broken in one of the locks (the paddles are the bits that respond to our vigorous winding to allow water into the locks, or stop it getting into the locks).     Set off from home just before 2.30pm. Had a good ride over on the motorway as you do. Got within 48miles of Manchester City and we had to drop down to 50mph then 40mph because of queueing. So had a steady run then it picked up again, then we came upon more queues. Then incident ahead which appeared to be roadworks. We were pleasEd to get off the M62 onto the M60. Geoff had already checked where we needed to be on Google ...

    ... in parts but really very interesting (is it any wonder international tourist lady spends most of her time on the phone texting or emailing home?). The final photo is not meant to be so symbolic of our time in olde England! But it is goodbye. Tomorrow bright and early (well at least early) we fly to Germany.
