The drive to Portland was quick – we only stopped for gas and fast food. The visit with Tom, Denise and Foster from Thursday to Monday was well worth the long drive. We took two days to drive back to Milton. Besides Montreal, the weather was very mild and the trees sported their usual fall colors for this time of year.

We are now one week away from our departure and realizing that next week at this time we will be in the air over the Pacific and headed to China! The accumulating of stuff is coming to an end and the real packing is beginning. The girls love the whole packing thing...their mother...not so much. Excitement is in the air as the count down begins.

On Oct 2nd we headed south to Wells where our timeshare is located. We drove along the coast and down a peninsula that was beautiful and rugged.We ate lunch in a little town at the end of the peninsula, Stoningham. We saw lots of quaint houses and lots of lobster boats. Lobster fishing seems to be the prominate fishery in these parts. I don't think there is a salmon fishery except for salmon fish farms. We eventually made our way to Freeport ...

... with a yard full of newly-built vintage-design boats. Beautiful. We stopped for lunch at a small roadside restaurant, and tried a "lobster roll". It was the meat of a 1# lobster, cold, mixed with a mayonnaise sauce of some kind, on a really nice roll split open vertically. It was "Way better than Wendy's".

i never knew what a great city portland, maine is! it is beautiful and has great restaurants. what more can you ask from a city?

we pulled into the harbor just after sunset--there was a lot of traffic in the channel with fishing boats and shrimping boats and lobtah boats. we docked at a slip and went for an amazing dinner at Street (i highly suggest it!).

When we checked in yesterday the ladies in reception had insisted that we should try the Merry Moose, the little log cabin in the grounds of the site that served pancakes and waffles for breakfast. So we wandered down there and put in our order for blueberry pancakes. A word of warning if you visit this KOA! The pancakes are huge! About 8 inches in diameter and about half an inch thick! I told him Singapore, but I think he made the common misconception that asking where someone was born is an acceptable question to ask for someone's national origin.
