Sept. 8th

Today we were booked on a city tour and it was perfect weather for doing it. We started at Bellevue House, which was the home for Sir John A MacDonald for a short time. It is now the best example of an Italianate Villa in Kingston. He was certainly quite a man and had such a profound impact on us as a nation.

... Lake Ontario & Lake Erie, the canal rises 380 feet, through 8 locks, 40 feet at a time basically climbing up and over the height of Niagara Falls. What an experience to hold steady this 103 ton vessel as she rises hundreds of feet. Each time entering a lock, surrounded by massive walls protecting the surrounding land from thousands of tons of water and then after a strenuous time of line handling later you are at the top of this bowl ...

... on the private islands.

Our campground was really nice, right on the bank of the St. Lawrence River. There was no electric or water hookup at the sites, but we can "rough it" for 1 night.

We rode our bikes into the harbor from the campground and locked them up at the dock. When we returned, we could not open ...
