Taking our life in my hands we used the car to drive to the initial pickup point which was conveniently at the Butterfly conservatory.
OK I admit it I enjoyed the butterflys...

... are definitely more comfortable, especially when you don't have much room any way cos the lady next to you is taking up her seat plus most of yours and no amount of prodding or politely asking her to move over a bit and put her arms back in was going to move her!!!! So was not the most comfortable 1/2 half to the journey ... She moved to the seat in front at the stop in Syracuse and then I had a seat to myself for next part ...
... br> Following the tour we set off for our hotel. On route a desperate looking Indian couple on the tour sort my help with a crying little girl. I'd assumed she was their child but she was actually their niece who they hadn't seen in two years and who clearly wasn't too sure of her long lost aunt and uncle who had plucked her from her familiar parents and Jersey for an overnight trip to Niagara. For reasons unknown she seemed to have concluded I was a safer bet and ...

The whole area is steeped in history having been fought over during the 1812 war with the United States, and we see the Fort George Barracks where the British Army were based at that time, their forces bolstered by the Native Americans to keep the US out of Canada. An enormous Union Jack still flies above it.
... we kept enviously seeing people float by us in kayaks, on water bikes, and in jet skis. I was so tempted to dive into the water. The only great thing at that point about being docked at Wardell’s was that the vampire flies (as Dad calls them) had dissipated and we were no longer under vicious attack. Even from Erie to Buffalo we killed many flies. (I’m pretty much a professional fly killer now.)
