In the mean time I have had the opportunity to identify some of the things I like about Canada.
1. The metric system – it just makes more sense
2. Availability of South African goods: e.g. Amarula, Smarties, Marmite, Aromat
3. Wineries – who wouldn’t
It's another amazing drive from Canmore, up & out of the Alberta National Parks across BC & then midway, turn south to Penticton, in the Okanagan region. We started off driving through the mountains, still sporting snow on the peaks. The scenery changes dramatically into BC with lower mountains & caverns, then finally through to the lakes district - very stunning. ... be waiting for nighthawks to return from their migration journey - we will then try and catch the same ones that were caught last year, and hopefully retrieve the transmitters surgically implanted into them, containing important data. This project is the definition of high risk, high reward...even just catching one nighthawk fitted with a transmitter will be considered a huge success.

We did do a bike ride during the morning and made it into town and up the hill to Tim Hortons and had a bagel and coffee for lunch. Our Costco bikes have passed their first test! Our original bikes were stolen in San Diego in 2012 and we hadn’t replaced them. This time we are traveling without a car in tow and felt we should have bikes for local travel along the way. We ...

Carol and Bruce are doing all the driving and we do the cooking. We have mainly taken the Highway 3 route across the lower end of the Rockies. The drive through the Okanagan Valley was superb and the fruit and wine in this area is very good.
