    We left this morning around 7am so that we could get an early start and take a ride around the west side of Lake Tahoe.

    ... in an early heavy snow storm in the Sierra Nevada Mountains and nearly half of the emigrants perished - some resorting to eating their animals and deceased members of their group. It was horrific. We continued east on Hwy 80 and after crossing miles and miles of salt flats, we finally reached Great Salt Lake and the KOA Camp in Salt Lake City. Cost: $95.23 for 2 nights.     Today we almost got stranded on the highway as we ran out of gas. The good Honda CRV kept on moving forward. We only had 1 mile of gas remaining in the tank when we found a gas station.     ... miners found some blue clay on some of the lower slopes of the town and got permission to pave a road down through the middle of town. One miner making at trip into Carson City’s Assay office had the clay analyzed and discovered it was a rich combination of silver and gold in the clay. Our guide said that he wonders how long the main street stayed paved since it’s not paved with the blue clay today.
