... was it raining steadily, but it had been raining steadily for nearly 24 hours, and, they said (quite plausibly), the trails would be very slippery. Not the best conditions for rank beginners. We asked about tomorrow, but they said the forecast was for more of the same, and then they offered a raincheck good for six months, at which point, we agreed, with some relief. The downside is that we have to come all the way back here (about 4 1/2 hour drive) ...

We intended to go to the ballgame tonight--the Bluefield (West Virginia) Blue Jays vs. the Princeton Rays, but it started raining about 3:00 and never let up. The game was postponed by the time we got to the hotel around 5:00, so at least we didn't have to go to the park and stand around through a lengthy rain delay.
