Made it down the bay overnight

... for poor visibility we were ducking in and out of the channel to avoid Navy traffic.

During the trip down anything that wasn't fastened down below ended up on the floor in the salon. Left Annapolis at 2 Monday and arrived at Top Rack Marina at about 2 this afternoon. Rewarded ourselves with a great dinner out at the Amber Lantern Restaurant. Early to bed. Up at 5:30 tomorrow to get underway at first light.

... As we approached Virginia Beach we were buzzed by FA 18's fighter jets overhead! We soon found out we were camped near the Navel Air Station Oceana, the only Jet Base on the East Coast. We were serenaded with their daily training flights - or the sound of freedom! One night we had helicopters (I think) overhead until 1:30am YES in the middle of the night! They seem to be doing circuits for hours & hours. Needless to say we were not thrilled ...

... I'm sitting on the beach watchin the waves and the reflection of the moon. Continuous military F14 jet exercises going on up until around midnight, so it's very loud (and very cool). Suddenly I hear large military helicopters. I look up and they're about 100ft over the water directly in front of me, in STEALTH mode - no lighting whatsoever. Very surreal, thinking they have to be practicing this stuff for actual missions. ...

... another 20 minutes to get and keep everyone seated. Every time our flight attendant thought everyone was seated someone else would pop up to get something out of their bag, go to the bathroom or go talk to a friend. This was despite flight attendants making announcements in English and Chinese. Don't worry eventually everyone sat down and they finished the safety presentation. And they even turned on our tvs! My final anecdote, for now, includes the FSU student ...
