    ... NH and the next day took a drive to Franconia Notch State Park. AMAZING! We saw the Old Man in the Mountain, rode the tram to the top of hill for a foliage extravaganza, hiked the Notch Flume, and got our butts kicked on the biking trail! We loved our time in New Hampshire. We were amazed at the beauty! We took a train ride on the Conway Scenic Railway.

    So off to Vermont where we imagined even more ...

    ... out of bed at 4 am to make the start.

    We spent Saturday morning reading and generally getting ourselves organised. The afternoon was low key - shopping for food and taking a drive around town.

    ... Ocracoke Island. This little island where we spent the first night on The Outer Banks is battening down the hatches for Hurricane Joaquin. It has been mandatorily evacuated - to use TV speak. Many of the places we visited are being battered by heavy seas - we were lucky to get out of there before the really nasty weather set in. They are calling it "rainfall of the century". There have been four deaths to date from the severe flooding and wild storms. ...

    ... They were built over corn stalks with round heads and hats. We saw all sorts of costumes including roaring 20’, the sixties, the 70s, etc., and outfits from different walks of life. A spokesperson for the village said, the kookier and brighter the outfit, the better. Villagers put these “leaf people” out at the autumn equinox and they attract visitors to the village.

    ... so bikes, cars, buses and pedestrians can use it. We had our lunch in the centre and then left about 1430. From Montreal we headed to the US border and had to fill out some forms, pay $6 each and get our fingerprints and photo taken, we were then allowed in. We then drove to our hotel which is the Hamilton Inn at Burlington. This is really just a stopover and we will be leaving early in the morning ...
