FYI...the little balls called Hush Puppies originate from the earlier slave days when the workers would eat their meal and the dogs would get restless and yelp or bark for food. ... Starbucks within just a few blocks, and there was some confusion as to which one I was in. Whoops!

I met up with my dad by 5:15. I can't begin to describe how relieved I was to see him, a familiar face at the end of a long journey, being so far away from home. He happened to be in Portland for work, and was catching a red eye flight back to New Jersey tonight. ... he may need that as evidence. He welcomed us to Portland, the city of drunks and drugs, not quite the impression we had first got.

We we then continued to walk to a restaurant, that had been recommended to us by a retired Judge, that we met on the Rocky Mountaineer Tour, and enjoyed a lovely dinner. quite an eventful evening.

Next morning we left Portland for our drive down the Oregon Coast.
