      Pikes Peak and Manitou Springs

A travel blog entry by tiger96nz on Sep 10, 2014

Early start this morning to head to Manitou Springs to catch the 9.20am cog railway up Pikes Peak. The weather didn't look that promising when we set off from the house and everyone at the train station was saying we were going to freeze up the top and we needed to get more clothes ... They said it was 28 degrees (-2.2 NZ temperature) at the top and we were wearing our 3/4 pants and everyone else looked like they ...

I took me 2 hours to escape CO Springs. I didn't have a solid plan, other than to start making my way east and then north to get on highway 36. With some prodding from my parents, I changed route... And I'm super glad I did. I rolled into Simla after hours of hilly farmland. I knew there was a campground, but it was late and I didn't want to waste daylight looking for it. I spotted a lady outside of a cafe painting ...

My good friend, Jim Harris, a professional photographer, asked me to accompany him to the Paint Mines Interpretive Park by Calhan, Colorado. I jumped at the chance. I had not been to the Paint Mines since I was in high school. That was many, many years ago.

I got home from church, changed into some jeans and drove to pick up Jim. At his home he lent me a tripod and then we were off. A short 30 ...

... we arrived at JFK! It took me almost an hour to get through customs, ML was waiting patiently for me. Too many Russians willing to enter the US. Normally we had plenty of time for the connection flight but everything went that slow that we were almost running out of time. But when we finally arrived at the gate, we saw that the flight from JFK to Denver was delayed with 1,5 hour. But as compensation we got a $10 voucher for any bar/restaurant at the airport and free ...
