      Highlands forever

A travel blog entry by icetim on Oct 20, 2014

... day break. We rode in a car to Inverness where we boarded a tour bus to John O Groats on the north east shore of Scotland. It was beautiful and exciting as the bus make its way along winding narrow mountain roads. When we safely arrived, the rain had stopped and the sun peeked out. It was cool and windy as we watched for the tour boat to arrive. Excitement was in the air as about forty people were patiently waiting for its arrival. ...

Another bit of a lazy start this morning :) (slowly getting into the time difference) had breakfast then headed out with Rob up through Cheyenne Canyon ... We stopped off to see if there were any hummingbirds at the starsmere centre, sadly they were having the day off or had flown south for the winter ... We did however see the Google car taking photos for Google Earth. A ...

With some prodding from my parents, I changed route... And I'm super glad I did. I rolled into Simla after hours of hilly farmland. I knew there was a campground, but it was late and I didn't want to waste daylight looking for it. I spotted a lady outside of a cafe painting ...

A driving day today. Almost 700km from Cortez to Colorado Springs. Stopped at a small town called Durango which is a lovely tourist village. Discovered that we had jumped a time zone yesterday. A few of the locals seem to enjoy smoking marijuana on a Saturday morning. It has recently become a legal drug in Colorado. We drove over two passes with snow around us. Sunny and fine of course but a little chilly up ...

My good friend, Jim Harris, a professional photographer, asked me to accompany him to the Paint Mines Interpretive Park by Calhan, Colorado. I jumped at the chance. I had not been to the Paint Mines since I was in high school. That was many, many years ago.

I got home from church, changed into some jeans and drove to pick up Jim. At his home he lent me a tripod and then we were off. A short 30 ...
