      Us 'travelers' entered Durango late in the afternoon to the smell of pristine country air. Surrounded by the Rocky Mountains, Durango was filled with trees and never-ending green fields.

      Another eight o'clock start for the drive from Grand Junction to Silverton. First stop is Ouray, a small western style town set in the mountains, then off through the pass to Red Mountain and the old mine workings.
