    ... the mountains in the background looked to me like Chinese woodcuts because of the smoke. Their outlines were stacked on top of each other as they blended into the horizon. Beautiful We stopped for fuel in the Butte, MT area paying $3.68/gal and getting a little less than 10 mpg on this tank.     ... in and the lot was only 15% full, but that small group was frantic! I soon realized there were big horn sheep in the parking lot licking a fluid off one of the parking spaces (I tried to convince myself it was Gatorade not antifreeze). Folks went nuts taking pictures (not me!) – at one point there were six sheep about nine spaces from my car, just licking the pavement and looking at all the crazy tourists.

    ... So, we got back on the road (now it was almost dark) and headed on to Lolo Hot Springs. The insects were fierce -- the windshield quickly became coated with bug innards and parts (later we saw that the front of the car was, expectedly, equally coated with bug shrapnel) -- what a mess!
