I later learned they are in Salish going north (because the Salish tribe lived in the southern portion of the region and would travel north) and Kootenai going south (I might have that reversed). By the time we reached Billings on Interstate 90 it started to become obvious why Montana's name is the Spanish word for "mountain." It was an instant reminder of why we don't live in a flat state. Those mountains are magnificent and remind me of how very small I am in the scheme of this world. Mighty Mother Nature rules and the rest of us just have to accept that fact. ...
