Abel Tasman National Park, South Island, New Zealand sivana... to Dead Baby Shark Island as we found12 dead baby sharks scattered along the shore line, we didn't take photos of the skeletons just in case we alarmed any one as it wasn't a pretty sight!! We also didn't collect any shells, even though some were quite pretty in respect of the dead! We lunched and shopped in Motueka. A typical large New Zealand town, the town center being the high street consisting of about twenty shops, four churches and ...
Nelson, South Island, New Zealand maxandtrudy... much amusement but Kim wasn't happy and paddled back to give some paddling lessons.
After a while we agreed to join another group doing a similar trip for the rest of the morning, while the girls caught up! This took us right into the seal nursery, where there were loads of seals including babies on the rocks and swimming around the kayaks. We carried on across the bay, all the while soaking in the ...
... of new zealand have made me want to shrug off the last little bit of doubt, to actually trust that people are inheriently good. brooks and i were watching a dvd of this scottish comedian billy conolly and he had a bit where he talked about coming to america and how like zombies we all say "have a nice day" "you're welcome". and that's horribly true. we don't actually mean have a nice ...
Nelson, South Island, New Zealand thehammsventure... Richmond Forest Park. Coming near the end of it, I stopped off at a caravan park to take a walk to a river with walking paths, and as well as seeing the river, I took a route that went to a small cave, but couldn't go far inside due to not having a torch with me. I continued my journey to Pelorus Bridge, which is a pedestrian swing bridge with walking tracks nearby. I took a short ...
Nelson, South Island, New Zealand eddiemetal... of the bay. Beautiful. It was a three hour ferry ride to Picton, but a "lovely ride" indeed. There was a lunch stop on the way to Nelson, where we could walk to a swing bridge over a river (there are a lot of cool swing bridges in New Zealand, or so it seems). Nelson is the gateway to Abel Tasman National Park, but we don't have time to go there, oh well. Nelson too is on the water, with water on one side and mountains on ...
Nelson, South Island, New Zealand jimmyandkristenHello from Abel Tasman National Park, where we will be spending the next few days. We had to take a water taxi to get here, because the only way to our lodge is by water or walking in on the trails. The water taxi was cool - because it was low tide, we sat in the boat while the man pulled it behind a tractor across the wet sand to the ocean. It looked crazy but it was ...
Abel Tasman National Park, South Island, New Zealand zolab... are pretty big and that = big poo. Haha Stayed the next two night's in Marahau. Again not much there but good access in to ATNP. Got a water taxi out the next day to Bark Bay which is about 14 miles away. Then we walked all the way back to our camp!!!! More fantastic secenery with golden sand beaches and blue lagoons set amongst the bush. The colur of the Tasman sea is Turquoise and the photos will not do it justice but I tried. 7 ...
Nelson, South Island, New Zealand kazzerby... also stopped at a lovely secluded beach called Fishermans Cove. We did this through the company Abel Tasman Sailing Adventures. The day was topped off by taking a (free) water taxi from Kaiteriteri Beach to Marahau (where we were staying). There was a bit of a swell on this day, and it meant that we rode some big waves on the way home. The boat came out of the water a few times and landed ...
Abel Tasman National Park, South Island, New Zealand allmans... Wilson family who owned the company we were travelling with. Full of action (stabbings and all sorts!) and historical artifacts were dotted all over the homestead which was on the site of their original house they had built once they had settled in New Zealand. A very pleasant evening again, but everyone ran out of steam at 9pm (all that fresh air and walking!) and headed for bed. It rained ... and rained ... and rained through the night. The wind was blowing a gale and ...
