    Today we visited the Vermont ski museum. I learned about two main things: Perry Merril, known as "The Man Who Put Vermont on Skis", and the 10th Mountain division, a ski unit in World War II. Perry Merrill Perry Merrill was a forester who believed in public use of public land. He was appointed State Forester in 1930.     Today we saw the home of Chester Arthur, our 21st president. He was one of only two presidents from Vermont, the other being Calvin Coolidge, and according to my father, his main claim to fame was "Not being as bad a president as everyone expected".

    ... Wisconsin, Michigan and now Vermont, the flowers have been beautiful. Almost every business and home has a lovely, colorful flower garden. Also visited the National Morgan Horse Farm in Middlebury. The farm was owned by the government until 1952 and was then taken over by the University of Vermont. The military trained horses for the Calvary at this facility. The barn was spectacular and built in e 1800's. Had ...
