308 Kennedy Road Napier, North Island, New Zealand
After enjoying the scenic drive between Milford and Te Anau, we headed to Queenstown - the party capital of the South Island. Here, you could also do a lot of death-defying activities which we weren't too interested in. This was more of a one-night stop just to say we'd been here. It is a bit too resorty/backpackerish. We stayed in Deco Backpackers up on the hill which crammed a backpacker in every nook and cranny. We had a small room with a lovely view of the ladies and gents. However, if yo...
Queenstown, New Zealand bryannieWell, here I am in Queenstown the adventure / party capital of the south. I got here on Sunday and did the Milford Sound day trip the next day. It was a long day on the bus and the weather was not so good for the boat trip. The scenery is amazing down here in the fjordland area. The trip itself I found to be very pedestrian, I mean, we were on a coach for most of the day and every coach stops at the same places for photos etc. I felt like a japanese tourist and the boat trip was boring. I rec...
Queenstown, New Zealand faffWe set out from Wellington headed for the Hawkes Bay area - the towns of Hastings and Napier. Boring drive, apart from the huge array of wind turbines. Lunch in Hastings - a nice enough one-horse town with colourful "Spanish Mission" style architecture, and a Subway sandwich bar. Napier is Art Deco City, having been flattened in the 30s by an earthquake and quickly rebuild in the modern style of the day. We took an excellent guided walking tour around the art deco buildings, then enjoyed a gi...
Napier, New Zealand grom... have never been to Miami Beach but this is what I would expect it to look like, in 10 times smaller and without the American influences.
On a completely different note, I forgot to mention that yesterday in Rotorua I had some more excellent ice cream. It was delicious. Hagendaas beware! The brand is a Kiwi one called Kapiti and the flavours I tried are "lemongrass and ginger" and "Black Doris plum and crème fraiche". I think that just about says it all.
... of work left before I have the next 2 days off before heading away. Tomorrow I am going to pick up my laybys and cross everything off my big giant list and maybe try and condense some stuff in my suitcase so then I am all set. The kids still have to pack for their 3 weeks at mums and my house looks like a mini tornado went off.
Friday only really have a few hours spare until the kids big production ...
... and was hoping the rain won't last till the night. We arrived at the orchard with light shower, picking still carried on. Got to put on my windbreaker when the rain gets heavier and cold wind start to hit you down the ladder. At 1200 we were told to call it a day as it deem unsafe for any outdoor work to continue on. I commit myself to my blog when I arrived back and slept an hour. Still the weather was not turning well and I was kind of disappointed ...
Napier, North Island, New Zealand traventure83...
Napier, North Island, New Zealand schwate... and grapes, and we all know what that means; we had to go wine tasting! But first we'll tell you about where we stayed. We stayed in Napier Prison which is the oldest prison in the country. There were prisoners there till 1993, and for the past few years it has been a hostel. You can stay in cells, but (thankfully) they were all full, so we stayed in the Warden's Hut instead. I don't know how well I would have slept if we had been in a cell. They haven't really ...
Napier, North Island, New Zealand jenandniamh... een dolle om me heen springt, kwam me erg vreemd voor.
Putorino, New Zealand cb_goes_againIt is raining outside and I am running out of money. That contract job with Beca is now a go. I am to be in Tauranga tomorrow to do the preliminary work and then will start the work in Gisborne on Tuesday. The company is putting me up i a "company flat" for the week. I was hoping for another hotel, but this is a good option as well. At least it will help me save money. I am hoping for 2 weeks worth of work in total. That would give me a nice boost in funds ...
