Seven years ago when we were here, we had put a Walmart location into our GPS to do some shopping. This was at a place called "Pass Christian", when we got to the point that Walmart was supposed to be located all we found was a cement slab Katrina had wiped out the building and most of the coastline including the boardwalk that followed the beach. Houses near the water had been devastated.

So much re-building work has happened ...

After a grueling five days of driving, it was time to find a nice campground and hang out for a few days. My plan was to stay at the state park on the beach near Destin. But the polar vortex spoiled things, so I found an RV park near Pensacola instead. The temperatures were in the 30's at night, and although it was only in the 50's during the day, at least it was sunny! ... and Panama City and found many more miles of white sand beaches. About 2 miles from the campground (an easy bike
ride away) was a small touristy town where the sidewalks were lined with about
8 small airstream campers converted into snack bars, each one serving something
different; hot dogs, sandwiches, tacos, soft drinks and beer. We definitely want to plan another trip to
spend more time on the panhandle and the beaches.
