    ... on the ground with piping. The further east we go the less fields and more range land with scattered cattle foraging among the sage brush and arid land. I wonder how large these ranches are. One source says the average size is 7,000 acres. I would have guessed more. I believe a lot of these ranchers get permits or leases to graze their cattle on BLM or USFS land.     We have arrived in Devil's Lake, North Dakota and should have been here a couple of hours earlier, but for our usual adventures... Ron wanted to buy a new microphone headset for my motorcycle helmet and thought the price in the USA might be better. So, we stopped in Bemidji but they didn't have it in stock and wouldn't ship to Canada if they ordered it...so off we went to Grand Forks, ND...with an incredibly strong crosswind that required some serious driving to keep ...

    ... a route suggested by the local tourist center. The local history museum was unfortunately closed but right next to it was a War Memorial. I continue to be amazed to see how well-kept these War Memorials in small towns across the U.S. are. It's sobering to see how many young men went to far-away places to fight for (mostly) other peoples' freedom (WW1, WW2, Korea, Vietnam, Iraq) and perished there.
