... museums, local markets, the great cafés. Browsing through the endless outdoor gear shops and of course the odd clothes shop too. Was very tempted to buy loads but held back. Stayed here until Thurs 15th, when I picked up a rental car, Holden Falcon. Beast of a machine!! Drove up North East to HaveLock North (Hawkes Bay Area) to visit some Kiwi's I meet while travelling in India. The road was interesting as it climbed up and over the mountains but ...

... it look like it would improve. We took off our jump suits and harnesses and would ring several more times during our stay in Taupo to try to reconstitute the jump, but cloud set in and refused stubbornly to move for the next two days. Speaking of which my dad would have loved this walk, it's rated the best day hike in the world and I'm so glad I did it. Obviously it's where Lord of the Rings was filmed and I must admit I am not a fan of those films but I can appreciate the landscape. It was freezing cold most of the way and at times we had to full on rock climb up to places and the whole time we would be laughing and singing (she'll ...

Day 118 - Huka Falls

A travel blog entry by costin on Jan 25, 2014

... huge inner tube that they were floating about in, with a smaller inner tube in tow that had a cool box full of beer in it. We decided at that moment that a return visit, with a couple of cold ones, was a must!
On the way back to the campsite, we picked up a few supplies at the supermarket and the bottle shop, ready for the evening. They didn't sell disposable barbecues at the supermarket, which we realised after picking up all ...
