... The castle was built by W.J. Hearst...a wealthy millionaire..who obviously owned a lot of property in the area and wanted to build his own mansion or castle. We decided to back track and see whether we could get another view of elephant seals....we did. Much clearer weather. Could sit there all day and watch them! We then drove back down the coast..onto Cambria..and then onto Morro Bay and then Pismo Beach..this must be a wealthy holiday house destination for Californians. ...
... and right next to the tracks was the barricaded beach. Plovers nest between march and September so the beach is closed and the are hefty fines should you breach it. I don't know who uses the railway from here cos its miles from anywhere but there is a big car park. Was a cold and foggy day so didn't waste any time there, so moved on to Lompoc for lunch, a cute town with street names starting with just a letter. Eg. J street or O ...
