GOOMBURRA VALLEY CHILL OUT

... the roads in the morning we noticed &#8220;Gordon Country&#8221; signs everywhere, apparently farmer Gordon allows campers for a fee on his cattle/horse farm but warns intruders of dire consequences if they trespass; it felt a bit like the wild west <br>but the only cowboys we encountered out there were 4 x4 drivers. Closer to the national parks the signs read: THIS IS NOT GORDON COUNTRY-NO CAMPING.

Even snel een berichtje

Catching the Clouds

... Warning Wollumbin, meaning "cloud catcher." It's a fitting name, as that the huge shark tooth-shaped summit pierces the cloud cover like a blade. Covered in sub-tropical and temperate rainforest, the climb wasn't particularly arduous. It was mostly rocky foothills, but the vegetation was outstanding. A canopy of colossal trees that seemed to never end blocked out the sun for most of the trek. Massive ferns and palms crowded ...

I survived an attack by a dangerous creature...

... day ahead of us. Friday: Out of the apartment around 10 am to catch the bus to SeaWorld which is actually just down the beach from me (SO cool)... and we did pretty much everything there. We saw a sea lion show, a dolphin show, a waterski show, a 4D underwater adventure movie, went on two different flume rides (you know, the ones where you go in a little boat and get SOAKED as you fall down the last drop into a pool of water), went on two different water slides ...

Journal 11

... be more promising. I had been advised by the YHA hostel in Byron that there were airport transfer buses at the airport to meet the plane. I made my way over to the counter and booked my seat on the bus to Byron. After a half hour drive I was dropped off outside the hostel and checked in just before the reception desk closed. As I walked into my room shared by 5 people the harsh reality of hostels and the all familiar stink hit me. I was on the ...

Hanging around

Hang gliding wasn't a sport that I had put too much thought into taking up, as it involves buying all of your kit at the start and therefore has pretty high set-up costs when compared to most other sports. I had considered trying it, like I would have a go at most things and therefore I hadn't thought a great deal about what it would be like to fly like a bird with a pair of man-made wings strapped to my back. My path crossed ...

first leg is over

... 3 hours until they closed so we only got to go to about 5 of em, but it was more than enough i dont think i couldve handled much more. They give you quit a bit in each "sop" and you can taste almost as many as you want. I bought two good bottles of wine, a merlot and a shiraz. Both are incredible. The second day we went to a beach called seal rocks, a great relaxing day on the beach. The waves were at least 8 feet high each time. On our ...

Everything But Koalas

... mountains, stunning waterfalls, kangaroos, pademelons, rare birds, lizards - everything but a koala! They seemed to have dropped the ball on that one. (Insert chuckle here). Right when we thought the day couldn't get any better, Thea prepared an amazing meal for everyone - roast chicken, sweet potatoes, corn on the cob, carrots, pumpkin...and we enjoyed it out on the patio. What a fantastic ending to the weekend. Hugs and Love, Dana and Trevor

Visit to rellies on their farm in the bush

... So, on Monday afternoon 10 October, after a pleasant visit to Sydney's Taronga Zoo and a beautiful ferry ride across the Harbour, we boarded the short flight to Gold Coast/Koolangatta, a two-hour drive from the Von Korffs' farm. They met us at the airport - we very nearly did not recognise the slim & trim figures in the arrivals hall! Life in the bush seems to have taken years off them. We arrived at their place as the light was fading: their temporary home (a caravan and two ...

What a long, strange trip it's been

Took a day tour to infamous Nimbin, a perma-stoned town in the lush foothills near Byron Bay. It was a hippie mecca. We decided to take the trip on Sunday to experience the travelling market. There were stalls of funky clothes, ethnic and organic cuisine, and spiritual ...
