I jolted awake from my fitful night at 5 a.m. to the roar of the loggers hurtling down Route 69 to Escanaba, MI, the lone road that traveled the 60 miles to tonight's destination. My heart raced and my gut twisted into a pretzel as I had flashbacks of last night's nightmares, spawned by yesterday's close encounters with the big rigs. I was torn by my goal to ride across every inch of the USA and my fear of the trucks. Should I ...

... flowers were abundant. They were large and vibrant in color. Yards and shops were all decked out in numerous varieties. Robin and Steve's new rig was delivered the day after we arrived, so we helped them shift all their belongings from one camper to another. They moved up from a 32 ft. ... this trip, but I'm glad I did. It has been a wonderful place to chill out for a few days. I haven't done much while I've been here, hiking, napping, knitting, eating. That's pretty much it. I rented a little cabin up in the woods and it has been a great base for exploring the peninsula. Most mornings have started out with my trusty thermal mug of coffee and Addie dancing in the waves at Whitefish Bay State Park.

      Most of the restaurants ...

... including laundry, shower, newly acquired (one day ago) dog, and backyard. Scot ran out to get milk, he is a caretaker for an elderly man in the area, and I was quite content playing his stratocaster for a while. It was clearly a beginner's guitar, as it had the number of each fret written in sharpie on the neck. Made me miss my guitar. I later went out for a 'fish fry', a tradition in these parts of frying up fish on Fridays in ...

We toured the Door Peninsula on Thursday and agree that it is the Cape Cod of the Midwest. Much like the Cape, there are tourists ,galleries, quaint, but crowded, towns and little public access to the water. One surprise was the prevalence of cherry orchards. Of course we had to sample them and they were delicious. We had a wonderful brunch in bailey's harbor where we enjoyed eggs Benedict made with a whitefish cake . We left Maribel Fri. morning and had a beautiful ...
