    ... some time to reflect, I realized that I would like to see even more of Germany, wouldn't mind spending more time in Riga and Istanbul, and three days in Tallinn was perfect.

    As always, I'm feeling very fortunate to have this travel opportunity, and I'm glad you all came along with me.

    After an 11+-hour fight from Istanbul to Chicago, a 1.5-hour bus ride to Milwaukee, and a 2-hour car drive home, I arrived in Green Bay on Tuesday evening around 10:30 pm.

    Trip highlights:

    Cologne Cathedral (Kolner Dom): One of the largest and most beautiful Roman Catholic cathedrals in the world. Like any cathedral, I have the opportunity to climb 500 steps to the top spire and sweat like a drowned rat in the process. I might pass on that.

    ... where the ice cream sundae was invented. I had one and it was very yummy. Upstairs is a ballroom still in use for plays, weddings, etc. It had been a hotel, then a boarding house and the bar is still there. It also had a dentist's and doctor's office and a barber shop with all the equipment. There was a spectacular doll's house complete with beautiful furniture. Charlton Heston's wife came from this town and there was lots of correspondence ...
