    ... that we used to our advantage to raise the pole, I recognize it immediately. The pole was carved by three prominent carvers, each from different clans. The shields or clan carvings are all from several different clans. This is not typical, as poles are usually made by specific clans to commemorate a significant event for their clan alone.     ... didn't have time to go into the museum but the walk was worth the journey alone. Back to the ferry and another over night sail to Yakutat. We were awoken by the public address system announcing our arrival at Yakutat. Only in port for 3 hours. Maria and I got of for about an hours walk along what appeared to be the only road. A nice bit of exercise in a very isolated little fishing village. Back on the ferry again for another over night ...
