After departing Alpena with following John & Rita we followed highway 23 through Cheboygan to the bridge. Connie got a great picture of the magnificent bridge as we crossed it onto the Upper Peninsula (UP), beginning our Yooper experience. Both Lake Michigan and Lake Huron are really only one body of water, sharing the same water level elevation.

& same with restaurants. The Star Line high speed ferry ride was only 18
minutes, including a buzz under the Mackinaw Suspension bridge, the longest
suspension bridge in North America. Mackinaw Island was a nice surprise. The
island is a State Park as of 1895, Michigan’s first, no vehicles transportation
Weather threatened rain all day. Very windy and chilly. Took a short drive down the back road to fill gas at a nearby town. Back to the RV for lunch and spent some time doing laundry. Did some planning for our longer trip in the fall. JD took a drive to see the church with a large cross. Packing up - on the road tomorrow. ...
... through downtown. Found Petosky State Park. Took a walk on the sandy beach there. Then drove a bit more to Burt Lake State Park. Large camping area, boat launches.. Very pretty. Called it a day, returned to the RV, grilled some burgers and had a great campfire. Used up the firewood, supposed to rain ...
... St. Mary's Cathedral next door. And there is Canada on the other side of the river. We had hoped to drive over the bridge to Canada but we didn't bring our passports. Had whitefish at a local restaurant, the Antlers - ceilings and walls covered with all sorts of antlers and taxidermy. Beautiful sunny day. Another campfire night. Awesome. Good ...
